Review: Railbound

Where did we miss the essence of a game not being relaxing? Railbound is a demonstration that we still have hope!

Railbound was created and distributed by Afterburn, a developer that was already flirting with the puzzle genre and other more contemplative and cuter types of games for some time, having also developed Golf Peaks and Inbento.

The game is available on the following platforms: iOS, Microsoft Windows, Xbox Series X and Series S, Mac OS

VISUAL

Cute and unique is how I would describe the graphical aspects of Railbound. Everything in the game is done with great care and we noticed this during our gameplay, with relaxing music and sound effects that give the game a very high quality.

The game is developed in Unity, which despite some people turning their noses up at this engine, was very competent in everything it undertook, especially in the simple but well-made animations.

GAMEPLAY

Railbound focuses on puzzles of fitting train cars, giving a path with fixed rails and a small amount of rails to position as we wish, making curves and modifying the routes of our trains, but the main objective of Railbound is to make us think about the best way to place all the wagons coupled to the main train.

The game has more than 100 levels, with worlds that focus on specific dynamics. For example, we have a whole world focused on tunnels. In the next world, we have another type of variation that also aggregates the tunnels, making each world more challenging and complex to the point of making us think for a few minutes before executing our final plan.

The gameplay itself isn't anything extraordinary that we haven't seen in the industry before, but it does everything very efficiently, making the game an excellent game in terms of balance of difficulty and pleasure, accomplishing the levels.

CONQUISTAS

Railbound's achievements are quite simple, just completing the extra worlds and stages. There are a few achievements where you have to fail or otherwise connect the wagons, but nothing too complex. In a few hours, you'll be able to complete all the achievements without any problems.

CONCLUSION

Railbound is a relief for the eyes, in the midst of so many beat and bomb shooting games, frantic with parry and timing actions. Fluffy, tough and relaxing, a combination that's hard to achieve, it manages to pull it off masterfully. The game is well thought out in each phase, from the most difficult to the introductory ones. We follow a relaxing soundtrack while we solve the puzzles.

I just didn't have any bugs or anything that affected my gaming experience. Games like Railbound should be made more often, and I'll be watching this developer closely, just waiting for their next release.
