Grab your magic broom and come deliver packages to Mika And The Witch's Mountain.
THE GAME
Mika And The Witch's Mountain is an adventure game developed by Chibig and Nukefist and distributed by Chibig. Mika is an apprentice witch and wants to be trained by Olagari, an experienced witch who lives on top of the mountain located in the center of the island. However, Olagari, in his grumpy way, throws Mika off the top of the mountain to test her skills with the broom. Our little witch ends up falling from the top, unsuccessfully in her flight and her magic broom breaks as a result. In order to have her broom fixed, she gets a job as a delivery girl so she can return to the top of the mountain. And so begins Mika's adventure, who will learn a lot from the island's residents.
MY IMPRESSIONS
With a simple and cute story, Mika And The Witch's Mountain brings equally simple gameplay, but with a lot of fun and a hint of challenge. Controlling little Mika while riding her broom may seem complicated at first, but you'll soon get the hang of it. The improvements that the broom gains also make everything easier and more fluid. The objectives are basic and easy to complete. In fact, the game is very quick to finish, if you decide not to explore the entire island, which also doesn't take that long. The game is in Brazilian Portuguese, which helps you follow Mika's journey and her relationship with the villagers.
The game's art is very cheerful and cartoonish, the characters are very characteristic, which makes everything almost like a cartoon. The island is not very big and is not full of details, except for a few specific points, such as the city. As mentioned before, the game is not very long, which for many is a flaw, but I don't have the same opinion. Mika And The Witch's Mountain has a great length, uses everything it has to offer and doesn't get boring. I can say with conviction that it's a game for all age groups.
ACHIEVEMENTS
The achievements are not difficult at all, nor are they boring. Even achievements related to collectibles are easy to complete. In addition to these, we have some connected to the progression of the story and also the famous achievements related to specific actions, such as falling into a haystack or destroying the children's sandcastle. In fact, this second one deserves attention, as it can only be completed until almost the end of the game, after which you will have to restart your progress to complete it. How do I know? Well, I missed the achievement and had to do it. Finally, we have some secondary objectives, which also unlock achievements. It is quite easy to get 100% in Mika And The Witch's Mountain.
CONCLUSION
I never imagined I needed to play something like Mika And The Witch's Mountain. It was almost a cleansing of the soul, because I've been playing so many things and almost nothing has held my attention. Then this game came along and, with all its simplicity, captivated me. I've been playing so many complex games full of mechanics that when I played Mika And The Witch's Mountain, I could just have fun with something simple that doesn't require much skill to play. Its relatively short length, which may be a defect for many, pleased me a lot. All of these aspects mentioned show how the developers understood the game they have in hand and didn't invent things to lengthen the game or use fancy mechanics to complicate it, they made a very fun game. The most incredible thing is that, at the time of this review, Mika And The Witch's Mountain is in early access and, despite already having a closed story, it will have some added features. If they continue with the same line of thinking they've had with the game so far, everything leads me to believe that these additions will only add positives.
