Pilot your mecha and explore floating islands accompanied by a dragon in First Dwarf.
THE GAME
First Dwarf is an action survival game developed by Star Drifters and distributed by 4Divinity and Star Drifters. Piloting his mecha, the dwarf Tru has the mission to find resources and a new home for his clan, as the world is no longer as they knew it. Accompanied by the dragon Ragna, Tru must pave the way for her clan to secure their future and honor their family name. Build bases, explore resources, discover new technologies and defend your peers from hostile creatures in First Dwarf.
MY IMPRESSIONS
It is important to note that, at the time of this review, the game is in early access. So, even if I have some criticisms, I know that in the future everything will be much better. The game is in Portuguese-Brazil, however, not 100% translated yet. First Dwarf has a lot of interesting mechanics and ideas going on at once. We have fundraising, creation of bases, technology research, base defense, in short, there really is a lot. And the best thing is that none of these ideals trample the other. On the contrary, they talk very well to each other.
In addition to the aforementioned mechanics, we also have character change, in which you can switch between Tru and Ragna, each with their specific skills. Tru can still pilot her mecha, which is actually what will happen for most of your game. The setting is very simple, but it does its job well, without visually polluting the map. Attacks on your base are frequent and you must be very alert. Combat using the mecha has a kind of perfect timing to attack which, if done correctly, will be more effective.
I encountered some problems while playing, like getting stuck on a mission because I used a resource that I can no longer get to do something else, however, these are normal things in early access games and this in no way changes how I see the game. Even though it still needs some polish in gameplay and graphics, it's a very fun game.
ACHIEVEMENTS
The game does not have achievements but, as previously mentioned, the game is in early access at the time of this review, so I imagine that due to the style of play, achievements will be added in the future. If it's not in the plans, it should be, as it would be a great addition.
CONCLUSION
I liked what I saw and what the game promises to deliver. In its current state, it is still a little stuck and needs more fluidity, but these are things that will certainly be improved. First Dwarf has a lot of potential, being a game with a lot of room to grow and evolve. With the right time and no rush to deliver what it promises, it will be a very interesting title to follow. The developers have a good base to work from and I hope they do a good job.
